North Country Organics

Organic farm produce

Welcome to North Country Organics. Our aim is to provide our customers with quality Organic produce at affordable prices! We work closely with The North East Organic programme to be able to source as much local produce as possible.

We are a family run business and have always been very contious of where produce comes from and more importantly how it is produced and what effect it has on our environment.
Growing produce of our own was something we wanted to do from the beginning. To grow from seed and then have that end product in our boxes was exciting and more importantly we would know exactly what had gone into producing it and the "food miles" would be minimal.

In 2007 we took over the walled garden at Little Harle, which is in the borough of Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland and is the birthplace of Capability Brown. The garden is originally from the Georgian period and in its working time would have fed the main house all year round.
In the early 1940's the garden stopped production and was more or less neglected, just housing sheep and pigs.

Our mission was to get the garden back to its original purpose & production as well as putting it into organic status.

To date we have done everything we set out to achieve - the garden has been in its "organic conversion" period for the past year and will be fully Organic from December 2009.
We are also producing a huge variety of vegetables that we are able to feed our own box scheme and shop with.
To get this far has been a long hard journey and the work has been intense. Some days we wanted to give up - but you know when we look at the garden and what we've done, that satisfied feeling makes it all worth while!

We harvest produce each week the moring our boxes are going out, this ensures that our customers get the freshest possible box, and with our garden only 10 miles away, it hasn't travelled the earth to get to you.
We also pick produce fresh for the shop every week (open Thursday, Friday all day & Sat morn) - This way you can be sure that you are buying vegetables at the very peak of freshness.
